UPDATED (see below)
February 26, 2013
It’s time for Steve’s (first) Daily iDeal, where I alert all those I can think of who have an iDevice (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or even an iMac or other Mac) to a great deal in iOS or OS X software.
Today’s deal is on SplashID Safe by SplashData, a great password manager to help you remember all those account names, user ids, passwords, access codes, and even PINs.
I know I may have told some of you about SplashID before – I’ve been using it since my days with PalmOS – but now it is on sale on the App Store and Mac App Store for iPhone/iPod, iPad, and Mac for 50% off it’s regular price.
(UPDATE 2 – March 5, 2013: As of this morning, Tues., March 5, 2013, the SplashID apps were back on sale for 50% off. Get ’em while this lasts, however long that might be.)
(UPDATE – Feb. 28, 2013: It turns out the sale expired less than 24 hours after I posted this. Sorry about that. If SplashID goes on sale again, I’ll let you know. Still a great app though.)
I’ve been using it on iPhone for quite some time, and now that it’s on sale on Mac and iPad, I’ve picked up those versions too – the Mac desktop version (or the Windows PC one, for that matter) is a must to sync the portable devices to if you’ve got more than one. And if you have even half as many accounts as I do, I’m sure you could use an app to help you remember all those accounts and their passwords. While an app called 1Password gets a lot of the hype, I’ve found SplashID to be great and it has one big advantage… it is also available for Windows, Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone, WebOS, and yes, the venerable old PalmOS on which I first discovered it so many years ago.
The sale seems to only be for the Apple-related devices and only through the App Store and Mac App Store right now. And I don’t know how long it’ll last, so go grab ’em while you can.
You can grab the iPad version at $4.99 here, the iPhone one also at $4.99 here, or the Mac one at $9.99 here. Again, those are all 50% off what they always have been. Plus, hey, if you can find a discounted iTunes gift card, you can save a bit more that way. And you can also find out more about the Windows and other versions at the company’s website: http://www.splashdata.com/splashid/
(Note: I do not work for or receive any money from SplashData. I just think this is a VERY useful app to have around… remembering that old password for that seldom used online account can be tough, and this type of app has saved my bacon a number of times.)
